Introducing Mikala…
Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Mikala! I am a 24 year old student living near Tampa, FL. I’ve been natural since middle school with a few big chops here and there! I have kinky/coily, low porosity hair! My IG is @acurlsjourney.
How do you currently wear your hair?
I find that my hair thrives in a stretched state! I usually opt for twist or braid outs! I also love a good bantu knot out! I also love protective styles (low manipulation for the win!!) I don’t usually wear wash n gos because it is easier for me to retain length and manages my coils in a stretched style.
When did you start using a bonnet? Do you use any other satin products?
My mother always had me sleep with a bonnet even as a child with relaxed hair. I actually can’t sleep without something on my head! I also love scarves and scrunchies! I never had other satin products like shower caps before coming across NP Tress Treats, and I love them too!
How did you find out about NPTressTreats?
I had been on the search for a good quality bonnet. One that was made with care, cute, and Black owned of course! Instagram hashtags led me to the right place!
What size bonnet do you wear? Over the ear? Behind the ear?
In twists/braids, i wear a standard size. If humidity got to my hair that day, I may need to go up a size! Def behind the ear!
Do you pineapple?
Yes! Only when my hair is in a blow dried style! This helps me keep it stretched and fluffy! If it’s just a twist or braid out, I band my hair with satin scrunchies!
What's the funniest/strangest thing you've used to protect your hair?
I know everyone’s gotten caught in the rain and had to use a plastic grocery bag to cover their hair!!! i keep a shower cap on me for this purpose specifically!
How do you determine what you will use (that night) for hair protection? Bonnet? Scarf?
I ALWAYS double up with a satin scarf and a bonnet over it!
How often and how do you wash your satin treats?
I hand wash my satin treats maybe once a month or so. Especially if I use them every night. I then ring out all the water and tumble dry on low. Good as new!
What's your favorite print? Any print you would like to see?
My favorite print is the sunflower!! It’s so pretty and bright!
